I hear some people on the "subspecies" board below us think that the florida bird is the weariest of them all. Or was it most weary? I don't remember, but don't tell them that our eastern is the smartest. ;D I would rather hunt a smart bird over a scared bird any day

Come on down here and hunt these Osceolas and I think you will see these boys are one of the hardest to hunt.

So far that I know for sure will be Florida for the Osceola since that is our only bird. The Merriams in New Mexico and I will tackle the Eastern in Georgia and if all goes right I will see bout getting a Rio in Texas!

I've not had the pleasure of hunting an ocseola as of yet, so I am probably speaking out of place. But I do now several guys who have tried for the true slam by doing it in one season. A couple of times they got every bird but the eastern and to make things worse they live in an area where the eastern is all they have to hunt.
Not sure about what's toughest but one day in the near future I hope to exchange pleasantries with one of those wary osceolas(hopefully it won't be so pleasant for the bird) ;D

I have hunted plenty of both and the only difference I can see is the osceola is not as vocal. Other than that they act about the same to me. Now the terrain is another story. Even the merriam acted about the same to me. I have not hunted the Rio so I can't say anything about them. But so far the turkeys seem to be about the same to me, it's the terrain that makes the difference .

It's been my observation that they're all pretty freakin stupid.

The biggest difference I have notice is that an Osceola guided hunt costs about 3 x as much as any of the other species to hunt and the same as a Goulds in Mexico.
