hi,
i am a new guy in town and just like to share my first to days of turkey whit ya.
day 1 had Todd from T.L.M GAME CALLS with
Opening day of Pennsylvania turkey season .
Location- Pike County P.A
Weather - cold , rain and dark sky’s
Birds worked – 2
Harvest- 1
Tom – 6’’ beard , 1’’spurs 18 lb dressed
Comments- most of the beard was missing only 6 ‘’ left
Hunting with – TODD (The Toad in PA) & Pete
Never got out to roost any bird the night before but I hunt these woods often and had a good idea were to start the morning of at.
We walk about ¼ mile to are first calling location and I let out 1 soft 4 note yelp and got a tom to answer right back .I told Todd at this time this bird was a big one . the one we are looking for. so I set Todd to my left about 20 yard and in front of me about 50 yards and Pete the same to me right. T he tom I would say was out about 400 maybe 500 yard to my left in some open woods
The tom start out real exited then seam to back of . I didn’t hit him with much calling or was it very loud calling. But I started of with just some purring and followed up with 2 clucks and he start double gobbling and coming in our direction . I was set up on the power line ( high line) and the shooters were just in the wood out in front of me I could not no long see ether hunter at this point but new the turkey could not see me ether .
So I let him work his why tordes us and only called when I felt he was holding up our just looking for us again . so I work him in to about I would say 150 yards from me but only about 75 to a 100 yards from the shooters and then this is were he got a little suspicious of us and was wondering were the hen was and why she was not walking to him.
Then I herd him back off and his next gobble sounded a little farther away this time.
So up in till this time I was working a box call( that I got from( TOM TALKER)
SO WHAT WRONG WITH A LITTLE PLUG.). But I had to take out the old diaphram and hit him with a couple of fast cut . and 2 fast sets of cutting and Todd’s tom was back on track and coming in faster now . I got out my friction call I got of THE TOAD
And just started to give him some soft purrs and clucks but this time with my back to him so he would maybe think I was walking away or getting farther from him. then his gobbles sounded really close . a lot closer!
Close enough that the were giving me the chills . now at this point I still can see what’s going on out in front of me so just as I got ready to hit him with another call is when a
Single shot from Todd’s 870 bark out . and it barked the sound I was waiting to here to tell me it was over.
As I walk up to were I can see that Todd was standing over his trophy as it was jumping up and down and flopping around . it turn out that Todd took the bird at about 20 yard with peter looking on.
Good shooting Todd

Turkey called in – 6
Shots 2
Harvest -1
Comments- shot and lost 1 tom ( hit low)
21lb, 1'' spurs, 8'' beard
Started the day off at sunrise at shahola falls. called for about 1 ½ hours not one gobble.
So we left and went up RT.6. We set up and was calling steady for about 30 minuets and herd a tom let loose it didn’t take long before they were running in on us they were 5 jakes with 3 to 4 inch beards and about 16lb. Now Pete never harvest a tom and was going to take one if the shot presented it self.
Couple purrs later there they were 20 yard and Pete took the shot . the Jake went right down but as fast as he went down he was up and running . we looked hard for about 1 hour but never found pets turkey witch didn’t settle good with Pete but I explained that thing like this happen it up to us that it just don’t happen often.
Now we are back in the truck heading to another good spot at grealys lake but to are surprise when we got there the bridge was out and I new of no other way in so we headed back to RT. 739 AND RT . 84 were the have just cut some trees and I thought maybe some birds were working the area for bug or berries so we arrived to find the Game commission officer coming out we talked for about ten minuets about the turkeys he has seen in the area and ones that hunters have harvested so far he sad he seen a couple nice tom’s and a couple jakes taken so far . well we left and headed in to the wood only about 150 yard in and started calling first I started of with a long yelp and the just worked my slate with some purrs and clucks for about 5 minuets and then I hard a long fare away gobble. so I did some fast cutting and that bird was on his way . after that I only hit him with 2 sets of about 4 clucks and he was 50 yard in front of me in no time the good thing was that Pete was about 35 yard in front of me bad for the tom who now was just about 15 yard from Pete. I gave him a soft purr and he stretched his neck to gobble 1 last time . Pete opened up on him and down he went and this one for good.
